35mm vs 40mm Artificial Grass: Comparing CATHIE, CASTLE and WENDY

Compare the listed construction of three YES4HOMES turf ranges and learn why pile height alone does not tell the whole story.

If you are comparing 35mm and 40mm artificial grass, the visible difference is only 5mm of fibre height. Your choice should also consider construction, appearance, the size you need and the way you will use the area.

What does pile height mean?

Pile height measures the length of the grass fibres, not the complete thickness of the backing and turf system. It does not tell you the density, drainage rate or impact protection of an installed surface. A taller grass is not automatically the more durable option.

Compare the YES4HOMES ranges

Specifications listed for each range
Specification CATHIE CASTLE WENDY
Pile height 35mm 40mm 40mm
Stitches per 10cm 14 18 18
PE yarn Dtex 5500 5500 7000

Check the selected product’s specifications and dimensions before ordering. Stitch rate is one part of construction, and Dtex measures yarn linear density. Neither number on its own establishes the total pile weight or proves that a turf will last longer in your particular space.

When to consider CATHIE 35mm

CATHIE 35mm is worth comparing if you prefer the look of its shorter pile or want to see how its price fits your project budget. Review the Mint Green, Matt Olive Bi-Colour and Yellow Bi-Colour tones in the product photos. Compare the feel and coverage using a sample if one is available.

When to compare CASTLE and WENDY 40mm

Both CASTLE 40mm and WENDY 40mm offer a longer pile and list an 18-stitch rate per 10cm. WENDY lists a different PE yarn specification. Look at the actual fibre appearance and colours of each range instead of choosing by height alone. Compare prices using the same roll dimensions.

Consider the finished installation

Your base and drainage plan matter whichever pile height you select. Check how water will leave the area, how edges will be secured and whether joins are needed. For a large rectangle, compare available 2m and 4m widths against a layout sketch; the wider roll may reduce joins, but only if the dimensions fit.

For outdoor use, plan shade and cleaning. Artificial grass can become hot in direct sunlight, and a longer pile is not a guarantee of a cooler surface. If the area will be used by pets, check the cleaning instructions and drainage route.
